Kalamazoo – Senior Short

Starlights: Purple. 16 + 3. Madonna Just like a prayer. Pivot into block ok lines a bit wide 135s – one girl dropped her leg. Spirals 3 lines to change hold 3 lines. No hold lines not lined up. Footwork – some bobbles. Two spoke very wide center took a long time to join, then two spoke to 3 spoke – nice transition. Triangle intersection clean. Block transitions generally good – pivot lines close. Some bumping into the circle footwork ok. Shape got a bit squished at end.

Score: 40.34

Crystallettes: Purple, light purple trim. 16 + 3. Foot Loose. Pivot block strong slight line movement. Pivot 4 lines strong. No hold – 135s solid position with change edge. Line straight into back spirals in pair then into line. Circle footwork strong. No hold not lined up going in or throughout. Got back into position at end. Nice energy. Two spoke very wide center and lines a bit curved. Three spoke also a bit curved then got straight. Triangle intersection clean.

Score: 56.80

Western Michigan University SST: Blue with sparkles. 16 + 2. Cole Porter. Ballroom. Block – pivot lines slid at beginning then lined up. Good transition into 3 spoke. Two spoke travel smooth and very straight. Triangle interscection clean. No hold somewhat out of line at beginning but generally people were in place. Slowish. Circle 135s held but shape got bent as people drifted out of position. Spirals 4 lines – change edges good. Pair eagles pivoting ok. Circle footwork ok.

Kalamazoo – Junior Short

Synergy (Leaside SC): Black with piano key motif down front. 15 + 1. “Chopsticks” Piano. Block transitions smooth. Pivot one line way out of place. Circle footwork good, shape bit off. Two lines – spirals feet really close to faces of the line behind ! then split into 4 lines. Triangle intersection one bump got through. No hold – one foot footwork lines pretty lined up then fall. 4 spoke no hold center traveled ok but very not far. Change direction was a bit skidded.

Score: 34.59

 

Hockettes: royal blue silver sparkles. 16 + 2. brown skates. Pop. No hold – some problems pretty good unison in block then fall. 4 spoke travel smooth and symmetric. Some fumbling into block transition strong pivot but losing handholds then two falls on turns. Triangle intersection clean. Circle deep edges some asynchronous footwork held shape ok. Spirals in pairs some leg bobbling but strong edges.

Score:  28.09

 

Chicago Jazz: Black white trim.  16 + 2. Untouchables. Nice twizzles into block. Pivot held strong. Triangle intersection clean. 4 spoke no hold center was very wide spaced in travel and slightly asymmetric. No hold were really trying to hold the edges. Illusion spin. Fan kick. Two line spirals split to 4 lines all legs came down synchronously. Circle footwork – being very careful. Circle shape ok – a bit squished at end.

Score: 39.65


Kalamazoo – Juvenile

Starlights: Navy with white trim. 18 + 3. Swing. Block – small break. No hold simple footwork, lines mostly straight. Elbow hold in line, spiral block lines were out of place, 4 spoke bit asymetric traveled strong. Box intersection got through. MII 135’s. Back lunge intersection two falls. Line fast, bit curved. Fan kicks. Circle took a long time to form. Footwork to music. Two spoke a bit curved.

Chicago Jazz: White hot pink sash. 19 + 2. Mary Poppins. Swing through and eagles. Box intersection got through. Swing to two line spirals – good. Circle nice shape and footwork ok. Some waltzing moves. Circle travel strong. No hold cute really trying to hold edges. Inventive intersection slow. Lines pivoted strong. Two spoke to three spoke to block – pretty smooth. Block footwork also synchronized. Big break in block. MII back spin with illusion. Strong transitions.

Hockettes: Navy and white. 16. Train theme. Triangle intersection forward clean. Two lines to one bit messy on transition back lunge. Two circles traveled ok. Fall in transition to circle footwork. Block fast but some fumbles. Pivot block held strong. Transition to three spoke – three spoke not symmetric. Two line intersection clean. Two spoke no center hold strong. ?Parallel to circle shape not held. MII catchfoots and eagles. Nice high energy, tried a lot of difficult transitions.

Chicago Radiance: Purple white trim. 14. Romeo and Juliet medley. MII 135s. Fall in center. Block pivot stopped at boards. Some fumbling for handholds and turns not synchronized. Two spoke big break – then got traveling. Two line intersection not synchronous. Two circles some travel. Circle asymetric footwork and shape. Traveled basketweave well. Triangle intersection forward clean. Line took a long time to form big break. Spirals nice.

Fond du Lac Blades: Lime green blue trim. 15. Fall x 2 in set up. Arm band came off. Pop Medley. Swing through. No hold out of synch footwork. Block fall skating really fast (rushing a bit). Circle ok, travel didn’t move very far. Lines ok, break – pivot good. Parallel pretty straight and fast. Three spoke no hold center traveled strong and symmetric. Triangle intersection forward with turns clean. MII 135s.

Saint Louis Synergy: Teal, pink and lime green. 15. Circus. 4 line intersection to 3 spoke nice transition. Traveled strong but didn’t have much ice left to move. Block slow but unison footwork. No hold bit messy lines. Line good synchronization, moved slowly. Pivot swung a bit. Fan intersection clean. Circle no travel. Waltzing. Circle footwork careful, slow. Circle huge fall and took a while to get back in. Triangle intersection clean. MII 135s. Recovered well from the fall.

Crystallettes: White fuschia trim. 15 + 1. Fall in warm up. “A Kiss on the Hand”. No hold a bit messy and fall. Block fast but messy. Good parallel wheel straight. Three spoke with center circle to traveling 3 strong. Line breaks in the two lines. Fast transitions. Fan intersection big bump and fall. Circle strong expansion but another fall. Circle travel strong. Block fast some shifting of lines. Triangle intersection clean. MII 135s.

Cleveland Edges: Beige military. 17. Fall in set up. WWII military. Nice marching . Block fall then huge break with two skaters out. Got back into synch. Three spoke traveled easily and smooth. Three line egg beater. Triangle intersection clean. Double circle traveled pretty well – fast and mostly symmetric. Circle dancing. Two lines fast join to single line little bit curved. Back lunge intersection got through. Parallel ok. MII strong sit spins. Nice choreography.

Phoenix: Hunter green gold trim. 18 + 2. Modern military. Block – some breaks interesting switch of skaters. Some fumbling into the 4 spoke which bunched up. 3 line parallel wheel pretty straight. Three circles. Interesting swing transitions that work. Circle lumpy but traveled far. Fan intersection clean. Two lines pivoted nicely. Block moved quickly. Footwork fairly simple. Two lines. MII intersecting spirals to egg beater.

Wisconsin Edge scratched.

Lot more teams doing back lunge intersections this year.


Kalamazoo – Open Juvenile A

 Ice Force: pink short skirts, black short sleeved tops. 14.  Grease.  Fall in circle struggling with handholds, circle traveled well. Footwork a bit out of synch. Line straight but almost a fall and break. Swing through. Line intersection- tried turn at poi. Block ok, kept shape. 2 spoke wheel moving strong to three spoke.

 Chicago Radiance: black white trim. 14 with 1 guy. Pop medly Dream?. Diag intersection to 3 spoke – got through. Change direction traveling 3 spoke ok.  Line took long time to form. Uneven. Block trying hard handholds some fumbling. Footwork. Circle trying footwork, travel bit slow. MII sit spins mostly synchronized but shape lopsided. Not sure if they were deliberately lining them up on the judges side.

 Kalamazoo Kinetic Black: Purple silver trim. 12. Swing. Nice swing arms/heads. Circle traveled very short distance. Footwork out of synch. Fall. took much too long to get in. Block big break. Line nice join. Pivot pretty straight. Really nice choreography. Fan intersection good. MII upright spins eagles. Wheel 4 spoke symetric to S to 2 spoke. Too bad about the fall and the long break – really nice choreography and they skated pretty strong and fast in the 2nd half.

 Silver Leafs: sparkle black and silver. 13. Bond. Triangle intersection clean. Circle travel slow but difficult elbow hold. Block strong fast – accurate change handholds. No hold section got out of synch. 3 spoke was asymetric. Wheel travel ok. Parallel wheel not lined up. Line bent, nice fan kick. Back spiral and shoot the ducks. Circle footwork ok. Two falls in center of MII. Pretty fast.

Chicago Skates: Light blue, royal blue trim. 15. Jupiter from the Planets. Big height range. Two falls in setup.  MII camels bit out of synch. Circle took a while to form, spirals, took a while to start traveling but went down ice ok. 3 spoke ok but two falls forming the block. Block really slowed down and lot of fumbling. Line pivot held quite well. Fan intersection got through but fall off the end of the two spoke wheel.

 Cleveland Edges: Black gold trim. 14. Chicago. Swing through to 3 spoke – nice symmetry and travel. Change direction. Parallell was straight and turned quick. Block footwork slowed them down but got through. Circle slow trying to do footwork to music. Travel messy and not very far. Line fast and reasonably straight. Intersection was a back lunge (don’t see that intersection much these days!). MII sit spins.

 Team du Coeur Blue: Peach multi with medieval-type drape on long sleeves. 12. Look older. Medley of songs like Halleluia.  MII – Kind of leg swing over with girls sitting on the ice?  3 spoke to parallel – didn’t travel. Block – tried pivot which got a bit out of line. No hold moved quickly but footwork a bit out of synch. Trying difficult footwork. Line straight. Spirals and catchfoots. Circle kept shape but footwork out of synch. Travel smooth. Intersection one line back lunge, other back upright – got through clean.

Skatejudge and A2VideoDude have arrived – saw the Juvenile Hockettes warming up.  Open Juvenile A coming up at 10:26am.  We will be blogging on the programs as the flights are completed (these are only impressions, not official critiques :-). We will be leaving after Senior Short due to work demands so will not be able to cover Open Juv B, Intermediate, Preliminary, Adult, Masters, Novice, Collegiate or Open Adult 😦

Synchro Worlds

Good luck to all of our former Hockettes at the 2011 World Synchronized Skating Championships in Helsinki, Finland. On Team USA 1 we have former Hockette Lindsay Grajek and on Team USA 2 we have Ashleigh Ostin, Bianca Pomponio, Marisa Hutchinson and Asst. Coach Katie Bowling.   Good luck girls!  Skate hard and skate great – we’re so proud of you!
